The timber grows in the norther part of Kerala. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and parts of other Indian states which contains rich soil full of minerals such as silicates, manganese, mica, iron and other vital tertiary minerals. It is sustainably managed forest timber by local Government Forest Departments respectively.
Characteristics
High fiber structure, oil content, density and volume giving a pleasant look and odor. The cut log contains moisture of 35-45%
The typical girth (mean circumference) is between 2.5 -8ft and diameter of upto 4ft.
The typical length is between 10ft – 16ft depending on the age and growth rate of the timber.
Sawing yield is only upto 60% whilst milling as the heart wood covered with thigh layers or outer timber.
Typical defects amount to varying spiral grains and irregular lines. But the bee-holes are very low which is very negligible.

Dark golden brown coloured and irregular spiral and straight grains.
Application
Teak is primarily used for furniture making and extracting veneer.
